2nd Sept 2009

Ok not too much to report today. Played a few WCOOP hyper turbo donkaments for no return on Stars but had a good late session on Cake playing Omaha for an end of the day +$300 score. Small result but not much effort so can't complain.

Had a busy day few days as one of my poker venues was held up last night by two AXE wielding locals just before final table! Probably going to have a negative effect on numbers for next week.

OK plans are to put some volume in on some cash tables on Cake and Tilt for some juicy rakeback returns! Cake seems soft in both Omaha and Omaha8 so, with 40% rakeback thanks to Yoyo (Jonny Vincent), it's an obvious target for even the break even player.

I hope to put in some nice volume on the cash tables but cannot turn my back on those MTT's that have served me so well recently. I have been getting annoyed as there seems to be a high numbers of scammers on the CMU site where I like to but shares in players with either concrete results or serious potential. May lay off for a while and let Tony's boys sort out a better system to reduce risk when purchasing more expensive shares.

COMPLETE FAIL in live cash mtt's and why? Great online success but be aware you will not convert online success into live results unless range is considered!

So you begin cashing in a higher number of events and soon taste that winning feeling! Winning a MTT tourney online with often huge fields, for a massive %ROI, regardless of the buy in, is up there with the best Orgasm/BJ/Drug High/Exercise Adrenalin Rush of Endorphins that life delivers too infrequently IMO. As well as the jump in bankroll consistent results directly leads to respect from your competitors.

Simple, if your stats are good enough to scare your opponents you have full scope to develop a strategy that crushes your opponent’s capability to play back at you. Especially during my heaters where my stats on OPR look way better than lifetime, there will be 2 or 3 players at every table scared to play out of position to you. 3-4 orbits in and you can small-ball these opponents pokervt.com, Negrano style.

Another thing I never understand when a player at your table comments about your good stats? It just is a license to acquire chips. If they see a +40% ROI with high volume they simply shut down and play a tight passive range. OK enough rambling and back to the thread.

So you feel on top of the world, confident enough to crush those Muppets at the local casino with ZERO experience compared to your hands played online ECT!

I traveled down to Crown Casino Melbourne Australia and played the Aussie Millions 2009 series. This was far from Muppets at the local casino with sick fields in every discipline and the smallest buy in was $1100. I left two weeks later just about with NO live cash’s and only success was in satellite events. I was lucky to brake even thanks to several online victories whilst running like god online playing with my rumNrasin account on David Saabs IP address of course. Man I run so good in that house it’s insane!

Even two live series later, with some very weak fields, I have been a disaster for any backers and have spent hours analyzing cause for my appalling results. I cannot stress how important it is to relax range especially in middle and late position carefully as live H/Hr is like dying slowly or watching Arsenal during the 90's.

I have found my range was far too tight considering the above and I just seemed to run bad in a few spots and then be forced to play the retarded nit short stack looking for spots to double up in…One spot I remember in this series was at Main Event JHDS2 where I ran KK into Joe Hachem’s AA of course after both flopping a set.
Soon enough your confidence is on the floor and your goals are further away for the experience! Also be wary of the ability to completely lag it up throwing caution to the wind in spots you would NEVER even consider online. This is suicide for a roll and you should just stop playing if this continues.

Without enough experience live I would be extra cautious with bankroll management of say just 1.5% max. I was lucky to be staked in these events as well as returning scores with % swapped with friends cashing well. I am now working on a better strategy for my next series accommodating comforts I am used to online, with ranges better able to compete.

Cash Table or MTT?

Well even though I have only started blogging some 15 years late, I will advise of the current dilemma of whether I should be cash tabling or playing MTT's? I believe it is vital to become a successful cash game player in order to be able to play those juicy luxurious multi table tournaments.

The problem is I haven’t as I’ve only ever put in any volume for just 6 months in the back end of 2008. This was on FTP, and Stars in all Stud Game variations up to $5/$10. 8 tabling stud variations is hardly the crack of online poker but it was very helpfull building a roll for Aussie Millions in Jan. I travelled during Jan/Feb and March this year playing events in Australia and since my return have become quite successful in online MTT.

Actually I have won 58 events online and have more than 10 X my bankroll. Sounds like a very nice problem to have, but I can hardly find a stud cash table to suit my new bankroll. Even if there is one, (Poker Stars ONLY), you simply do not get the volume of Muppet poker required to build on my roll any further. Well if I am going to get a name for myself winning $300/day playing $5/10 stud cash is hardly going to do it so what is next for the TMH?

I have decided to continue playing MTT's for the next 10 weeks and moving up in buy in whenever possible. Stud players will tell you this may not work as there are only a few $216 Stud tourneys available online and most of them have small fields with just the top 6-8 getting any + ROI!

I got started taking MTT’s seriously when I was in Melbourne and got advised that Tony G had bought a website called chipmeup.com. After several months I was running terrible despite doing well in my online events but TERRIBLE in live listed events giving me a –ROI which was so fkin frustrating.

After Mark Vos sent me a message saying, “don’t list any events if you think you are good enough as this will reduce bankroll potential”. I was trying to reduce variance and CMU is a great way of selling shares in your events to accomplish this but Mark was right AGAIN! The money I have won since has been crucial in building my roll and if I had sold 30-40% in those events I would not be in the same position.

I started playing events without listing them and won two out of the first three played, with a disappointing 4th place in the other! Needless to say I am not listing events on the site and will not need to unless I want to play in some WCOOP and FTOPS events which are too big for most of our bankrolls!

In 2009 my goals were quite simple:

1) Turn $600 into $5,000 playing cash and online MTT’s.    (Completed by March in style)
2) Turn to bigger, live MTT’s to achieve a big score.            (Complete FAIL! Live range bad)
3) Achieve a $10,000 bankroll playing MTT’s online.           (Completed by end of April).
4) Using staking & online MTT’s run for $50,000.                (Update 2 follow/nowhere close)
5) Study all formats including: Stud/Stud8/Omaha8/NLH/Razz/2-7LB/LHE. (NLH esp)!

Whilst I am achieving online in 2009, I do feel I am way under expectation and hoping to achieve bigger success in the remaining 4 months of this year. With the Australian circuit severing ties with all STUD/ OMAHA8/ and HORSE events I guess I won't be travelling and loosing money in live events. (Or improving and shipping huge chunks SIGH)!

I have a big tourny schedule for tomorrow so will be updating with results and blogging the journy to a $50k roll.

TMH - the Blogg has finally arrived!!!

Welcome to the blog I should have started years ago. I've been playing poker since the age of 6, and would watch a serious cash game my Dad held at home in London during the 70's. My bankroll started at school with both poker dice and 5 card draw, crushing anyone who would play me. Unaware of the correct Bankroll Management,  I was happy as long as I had enough for sweets and my next game!

My early abilities were completely natural and pshycological, with a little math thrown in. Tuition tools were simply not avilable in those days as we were 10 years pre microwave, let alone internet and amazon.com! The Mike Caro University was just an itch in his pants, and running stats was something only done at university.

After an almost successfull acting and music career, and a 15 years practicing medicine, I have finally concluded that poker is my life and will always be. Playing 3-10hours/day online for the last 18 months I still simply LOVE getting up and doing battle!

Backing me up is an investment into three poker franchises in Australia. This provides some stability to, what can only be described as, a dangerous career change. From GTD financial stability to the unknown varience playing poker provides, follow my journey as I embark to take on the world and leave it a poker legend!
